Mark Allen Miller, a 48-year-old man, vanished after completing his shift as a senior banquet captain at the Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center in Rockford, Illinois, on March 12, 2009. He was a dedicated and social individual, and his disappearance was out of character. The day he went missing, Miller had a conversation with a friend, informing them that he intended to ask his roommate of two years to move out of their shared residence in the 300 block of Whitman Avenue. He later called the same friend to say the conversation had gone better than he had anticipated. His roommate, Manuel Vasquez Rivera, is believed to be the last person to have seen him.
A few days after he was last seen, on either the evening of March 14th or the morning of March 15th, Miller's silver 1998 Chrysler New Yorker was discovered abandoned. The vehicle was found in the 1900 block of Harlem Boulevard, approximately a mile from his home. An investigation of both the car and his apartment yielded no signs of a struggle or any immediate clues as to what might have happened to him. Authorities have expressed interest in speaking with his former roommate, who is believed to have moved out of state, to learn if he has any information regarding Miller's disappearance.
Years later, in October 2012, a significant development occurred when ATV riders discovered Miller's wallet at the Rocky Glen Off-Highway Vehicle Park in south Rockford. This area is often submerged underwater. The discovery of the wallet led to the finding of human remains nearby, initially sparking hope for a resolution in the case. However, it was later determined that the remains did not belong to Mark Miller. His briefcase and car keys have never been located. The case has grown cold over the years, leaving his family, including his parents in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and his four brothers, without answers. The Rockford Police Department continues to investigate his disappearance. The circumstances surrounding Mark Allen Miller's case remain a mystery, marked by the discovery of his abandoned car and wallet years later, yet providing no definitive explanation for his sudden vanishing.
