Peter Achermann, an 82-year-old man from Staples, Minnesota, was last seen on July 24, 2009. That day, Peter left his home to run errands, including shopping for groceries and picking up medication for his wife. He was last seen near the Crow Wing River bridge and was expected to return home by 2:00 p.m., but he never arrived. The following day, his light blue 1995 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon was found stuck in mud on a remote, minimum-maintenance road about 10 miles from his home in Becker
Township, Cass County.
Inside the vehicle were the groceries he had purchased and his wife’s prescription, but there was no sign of Peter. His cane and car keys were missing, and there was no evidence to suggest where he might have gone. Given his age and the rough terrain of the area, it was unlikely that he could have traveled far on foot.
Despite extensive searches, no trace of Peter has ever been found. His family stated that Peter was in good health, not suffering from dementia or any other major health issues, making his disappearance all the more puzzling.
