Katherine Anne Truitt, 37, disappeared on January 6, 2010, from Alameda, California. Her tan Ford Ranger was later found at McClures Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, on January 9, 2010. Inside the truck, two of her dogs were discovered, while a third dog was found leashed to a rock nearby. Katherine, an avid hiker familiar with the area, had frequently visited the Point Reyes trails. Search efforts, including tracking dogs, followed her scent to the beach trail, but no further clues were found.
Authorities believe Katherine may have been swept into the ocean due to the rough waters at McClures Beach, which are known to be treacherous. Although no foul play is suspected, her body was never recovered. Katherine had been dealing with chronic pain from a neck injury and had taken up hiking as a way to manage her discomfort.
