Earl "Bubba" John Kidder, Jr., a 39-year-old man from Opelousas, Louisiana, disappeared on March 28, 2010, while on a weekend fishing trip with two friends. His family grew concerned when he failed to show up for a doctor's appointment with his ill mother the day after the trip. On the day he went missing, Kidder had spoken to his mother by phone, telling her the fishing was going well and that he was having a good time. That phone call would be the last time his family ever heard from him. He was officially reported missing by his father on March 31, 2010. The two friends who accompanied Kidder on the fishing trip to the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area told authorities they had no information about his whereabouts. One of the men, Chad Pitre, stated that he last saw Kidder at their campsite on Big Alabama Road. He claimed to have gone to sleep between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. and awoke the next morning to find both Kidder and his gold 2002 Mitsubishi Galant gone. The other friend on the trip was identified as Riki Armand. Both men were questioned extensively by law enforcement. The case took a troubling turn when the Mitsubishi Galant was discovered abandoned and completely burned on a remote road near the Little Alabama Bayou within the wildlife area. Investigators quickly determined the fire was an act of arson. The investigation into Earl Kidder, Jr.'s disappearance is a multi-jurisdictional effort, involving the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, where he was initially reported missing, and the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, after the burned vehicle was found within their parish. The Pointe Coupee Sheriff's Office is also involved in the investigation. Kidder is described as a Caucasian male with brown wavy hair and brown eyes, standing approximately 6 feet tall and weighing around 195 pounds. He has a noticeable dimple on his chin and a large scar on his right arm near the elbow. His family believes he met with foul play, stating that it was highly uncharacteristic of him to leave without any warning or contact. The perplexing circumstances surrounding his disappearance, including the conflicting accounts of his companions and the discovery of the torched car, have left his loved ones without answers for over a decade. The case remains unsolved, a painful and enduring mystery for his family and the community.
