Leila Lewis Bryan, aged 36, and her four-year-old daughter Mary Rachel were last seen on May 10, 1941, in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. Leila left home around 9:00 p.m. that evening, reportedly heading out for groceries or a small errand. She drove a black 1935 Ford Model A coupe, but neither she, her daughter, nor the vehicle were ever seen again. Her disappearance led to extensive searches, including diving operations in local waterways, but no substantial clues were uncovered.
