On a spring evening in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, the lives of a young mother and her child veered into an enduring mystery. On May 10, 1941, 36-year-old Leila Lewis Bryan and her four-year-old daughter, Mary Rachel, disappeared without a trace. Around 9:00 p.m., Leila told her husband, E.C.
