In the late summer of 1977, a 24-year-old man named Ronnie Odell Davis vanished from the area near Swink in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, leaving behind a life that included a job at Weyerhaeuser and a passion for calf roping at local rodeos. On August 24, 1977, after finishing his workday, Ronnie drove his distinctive 1975 blue and white Ford F-350 XLT pickup truck to the corral where he kept his horses, a place located about three miles from the home he shared with his father. He was never seen or heard from again. At the time of his disappearance, Ronnie was described as being between 6'2" and 6'3" tall, weighing around 180 to 185 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue denim shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots, and a gold watch. The circumstances surrounding Ronnie's disappearance are unsettling and suggest foul play. A witness reported seeing Ronnie at his horse corral with two unidentified men. According to this account, one of the men was holding a rifle and smiling, as Ronnie jumped into the back of his own pickup truck. Also seen nearby was a blue and white Buick with Texas license plates. When Ronnie failed to return home, his father and uncle went to the corral to look for him. There, they discovered a patch of matted-down tall grass that appeared to have been a spot where one or two people had been waiting for a considerable time, evidenced by the cigarette butts and gum wrappers scattered on the ground. Neither Ronnie Davis nor his pickup truck has ever been located. The investigation into Ronnie's disappearance, which was taken over by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) shortly after he was reported missing, has spanned decades. Despite numerous interviews and leads pursued over the years, the case has grown cold. Ronnie's family has long believed his disappearance may have been a tragic mistake related to drugs, though they maintain he was not involved in them himself. Their theory posits that someone may have stolen and hidden marijuana in his horse corral, and the owners of the drugs, mistakenly believing Ronnie was the thief, retaliated against him. In an effort to generate new leads, the OSBI has offered a $5,000 reward for information that could solve the case and locate Ronnie's remains. This case represents a long and painful chapter for a family seeking answers, a mystery centered on a young man who vanished after a day of work, his last known moments spent at a familiar place where he cared for his horses.
