Kevin Lee Ellsworth, an 18-year-old from International Falls, Minnesota, disappeared on the night of July 11, 1982. Earlier in the evening, Kevin and some friends crashed a wedding reception at the local Union Hall, where he was involved in a disturbance. Witnesses reported that he left the hall around 2:30 a.m., heading toward a nearby bowling alley. His last known words were, "Anybody who stays around here is going to jail, come with me to heaven."
At the time of his disappearance, Kevin had access to the abandoned Rex Hotel, where he had done some janitorial work for his father. Kevin reportedly knew of a cot in the basement where he might have been staying that night. Tragically, the Rex Hotel caught fire and was completely destroyed. Although Kevin's remains were never found in the rubble, his car was discovered parked across the street, and a key to the hotel was found nearby. Despite this, no evidence has confirmed that Kevin was in the building during the fire.
There were unconfirmed sightings of Kevin in International Falls and later in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, but his whereabouts remain unknown. Kevin's family, who had ties to Kelso, Washington, continued searching for answers, but the case remains unsolved to this day.
