In the summer of 1983, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, 58-year-old Senia Marie Matson was with family and friends at a cabin in Trout Lake Township. The cabin was situated on the shore of Carp Lake, also known as Trout Lake. In the early morning hours of July 3rd, after consuming a significant amount of alcohol, Senia walked out of the cabin and into the surrounding woods. She was never seen or heard from again. At the time she went missing, Senia was wearing blue jeans, a light blue sweatshirt, and maroon tennis shoes. She also wore a gold wedding band and a gold watch with a gold band. Senia had brown hair, green eyes, and wore prescription eyeglasses. She had distinctive scars on both of her breasts from mastectomies and another scar on her upper left arm from a tattoo removal. Following her disappearance, authorities were notified and an extensive search of the area was launched. Both air and ground searches were conducted in an effort to locate any sign of Senia, but these searches yielded no clues as to her whereabouts. The Michigan State Police are the primary investigating agency for her case. It was noted by those who knew her that Senia sometimes experienced periodic memory lapses, which was a point of concern for investigators. The circumstances surrounding her vanishing left investigators with several possibilities to consider. One theory is that she may have become disoriented and lost in the dense woods surrounding the lake. Another possibility is that she may have encountered someone and accepted a ride. Decades have passed since Senia Matson was last seen, and her case has grown cold. Despite the passage of time, her case remains open and she is listed in national missing persons databases, including NamUs under the case number MP9786. The investigation into her disappearance has been marked by a lack of evidence and few leads, making it a challenging case for law enforcement. The official narrative remains that Senia, after a night of drinking, wandered into the woods from a cabin on Carp Lake and vanished without a trace. Her family has been left without answers, and the mystery of what happened to Senia Marie Matson in the early hours of that July day continues to be an unresolved case for the Michigan State Police.
