Michel Paul, a 36-year-old man, was last seen on July 31, 1985, at the Essex Marina in Essex, New York. He and another individual, Pierre Petit, had set out on Lake Champlain in a small dinghy. A few days later, on August 6, 1985, Petit's body was discovered floating in the lake, with his death ruled as a freshwater drowning. Despite extensive searches, Michel Paul's body was never recovered, though authorities believe he likely drowned in the same incident.
