In the spring of 1990, 72-year-old Woodrow Wilson Grimland embarked on a journey from his home in Needles, California, with the intention of visiting relatives in Plainview, Texas. On May 9, 1990, he made a stop in Flagstaff, Arizona, to spend time with his son, Ronald, and his family. After the visit, Woodrow left his son's home, continuing on his trip.
