Edward Scott Cody, a 36-year-old man, was last seen on July 2, 1998, after he left from the Bay Pines Boat Ramp in Madeira Beach, Florida. Cody had gone out alone in his 24-foot pleasure vessel into the Gulf of Mexico, intending to scuba dive. His last known location was approximately seven miles west of John's Pass. On July 3, his scuba gear was discovered floating about 9 miles offshore, and on July 4, his boat was found anchored with no one aboard. Despite an extensive search, Cody was never found and is believed to have died in a diving accident at sea.
Cody was reported missing by his sister on July 6, 1998, when he failed to return. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance point to a likely mishap while diving, but despite the recovery of his equipment and boat, no further evidence has surfaced regarding his whereabouts. His case remains unsolved, with the assumption that he drowned during his solo dive.
