On that day, her mother, Blanca Alicia Duenas Arellano, was tragically found murdered in their home, having been stabbed multiple times. Monica and her younger brother, Victor, disappeared the same day, and authorities believe they were taken by their father, Francisco Arellano, who is the prime suspect in Blanca's murder.
Francisco had a history of domestic violence, including a prior conviction for spousal abuse. Blanca had taken out a restraining order against him, citing ongoing threats that he would kill her and take their children to Mexico. After the murder, Francisco fled, and investigators believe he may have taken Monica and Victor across the border. Despite numerous efforts over the years, neither Monica, Victor, nor Francisco have been located, and the case remains unsolved.
