In the late summer of 2000, the academic community at the University of Missouri in Columbia was unsettled by a quiet and baffling disappearance. Yinzhou Zheng, a 46-year-old graduate student from China, was last seen on September 17, 2000. He had plans to travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to visit his daughter for the week.
