He was known by the nickname 'Cheeto' and sometimes used the aliases Juan Carlos or Esequiel Chavez. His life in Aurora seemed unremarkable until the day he disappeared, leaving behind his vehicle and a void in the lives of those who knew him. The circumstances of his disappearance would prove to be perplexing, with few answers and an enduring sense of uncertainty for his family.
On October 25, 2005, Armando was at his residence on Grandview Place. He made plans to go to the Chicago Premium Outlets with his roommate. They left together in the roommate's truck, heading towards the shopping center located on North Farnsworth Avenue. According to his roommate, the purpose of the trip was for Armando to meet with an unidentified man. Upon arriving at the outlet mall and locating this individual, described only as a Hispanic male in his twenties, Armando instructed his roommate to wait in the truck, assuring him he would return in a few minutes. However, Armando Chavez-Caballero never came back.
Following his failure to return, Armando's roommate attempted to find him and made unsuccessful calls to his cell phone. It wasn't until November 7, that Armando's brother officially reported him as a missing person to the Aurora Police Department. While Armando had a history of leaving home for short periods, his prolonged absence on this occasion was uncharacteristic and raised immediate concern. The investigation into his disappearance has been met with few leads, leaving his case unsolved.
