Joel Anthony Ariza, a 24-year-old man from Chester, Pennsylvania, went missing on October 30, 2009. He was last seen launching his new boat into the Delaware River under the Commodore Barry Bridge around 2:00 a.m., accompanied by a friend. Shortly after setting off, the boat's engine stalled, causing it to take on water and eventually capsize. While Ariza's friend managed to swim to shore, Joel decided to stay with the boat and was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
