Kelly Rothwell, a 35-year-old police cadet, was last seen on March 12, 2011, after having lunch with a friend in Clearwater, Florida. She told her friend that she was planning to return to her Indian Rocks Beach home to break up with her long-term boyfriend, David Perry, whom she described as controlling and abusive. Neighbors later reported hearing loud noises, like thumps, from the couple's condo, followed by the sound of vacuuming.
Kelly was reported missing when she failed to meet up with friends later that day and did not attend her police academy classes the following Monday, which was highly unusual for her. The next day, her car, a green Subaru Outback, was found abandoned a couple of miles from her home. A search of the condo revealed no signs of a struggle, but it smelled heavily of bleach, and it appeared meticulously cleaned.
Perry, a retired New York corrections officer, quickly left Florida, driving back to New York just hours after Kelly's disappearance. Although he was named a suspect, Perry refused to cooperate with investigators, and no charges have been filed against him in connection to Kelly's case. Despite extensive searches and ongoing investigations, Kelly Rothwell remains missing, and foul play is strongly suspected.
