On the day of his disappearance, Walls was driving a rented red or maroon 1980 Mercury Cougar. The vehicle was later found abandoned at the Fort Pierce Service Plaza on the Florida Turnpike, with the keys still in the ignition. Despite no visible signs of foul play, the car had been driven an unaccounted distance of 500 miles. His briefcase and its contents were missing.
