Tracy Lea Stewart, an 18-year-old from Carson, California, was last seen on August 9, 1981. On that evening, she told her family she was going on a date with a man she had recently met, later identified as Robert Wayne Beckett Jr. She left her home with him but never returned. Beckett Jr. was later convicted of her murder in 1989. His father, Robert Wayne Beckett Sr., was also convicted in 1995 for his role in Stewart's death after it was revealed that the father had orchestrated her murder following several days of torture and assault. Despite these convictions, Stewart's body was never recovered, and she remains classified as missing.

The case is particularly tragic as Stewart was described as a shy, responsible young woman who had just graduated high school and had no history of running away. Her case attracted significant attention, eventually leading to the convictions of both father and son, but closure has been elusive due to the absence of her remains. Foul play is suspected, but Stewart's exact fate remains a mystery.
