Susan Zaharias, 27, disappeared on November 20, 1987, from Mission Viejo, California, along with her two young children, Christopher (age 3) and Lisa (15 months). After a heated argument with her husband, Louis Zaharias, Susan took the children while Louis was at work. It is believed that Susan's family may have assisted her in fleeing. The three have not been seen together since.
Susan, who had been struggling with substance abuse issues at the time, left behind a complicated trail. There were unconfirmed sightings of her and the children in Pennsylvania and Michigan following their disappearance. A felony warrant was issued against Susan for custodial interference and crimes against persons in 1988. Authorities have continued searching for Susan and her children, but their current whereabouts remain unknown. Over the years, age-progressed images of both Susan and the children have been released to aid in the investigation.
The case remains unsolved, and authorities encourage anyone with information to come forward in the hope of reuniting the family.
