In the spring of 1988, a young woman from Lincoln Park, Michigan, named Phyllis Anne Flynn, celebrated her 23rd birthday on May 7th. After spending time with family and friends, she was dropped off at the Hotel Yorba in southwest Detroit to stay with her boyfriend. This would be the last time her loved ones saw her in person. A few days later, on May 13th, Phyllis made a phone call to her parents, asking them to come and pick her up from the hotel. When her father arrived, he was met at the entrance by two unknown men who informed him that Phyllis was gone. She has not been seen or heard from since that day. Initially, Phyllis's family wasn't immediately alarmed by her absence, as she had a history of disappearing for periods of time. However, as weeks turned into an extended period with no contact, their concern grew, and they attempted to file a missing person's report. They faced jurisdictional challenges, with the Lincoln Park police unable to open a case since she went missing in Detroit, and difficulties in getting a response from the Detroit Police Department. This delay in initiating an official investigation unfortunately resulted in a significant loss of time in the crucial early stages of the search for Phyllis. At the time of her disappearance, Phyllis was described as a Caucasian female, standing between 5'0" and 5'3" tall and weighing around 100 to 115 pounds. She had brown hair, which she sometimes had streaked with blonde, and hazel eyes. She may have also worn eyeglasses. Phyllis was also known to use the aliases Linda Anne Flynn and Phyllis Abdal. The case of Phyllis Flynn's disappearance is an overview of a family's prolonged and heart-wrenching search for answers. The initial hope that she had simply dropped out of sight on her own accord slowly faded into the grim reality of a cold case. Despite the passage of decades, her family, including her two siblings who now reside in Arizona, continue to hold out hope for a resolution. The Detroit Police Department continues to list her as a missing person, a silent testament to a life interrupted and a family left in limbo.
