In the autumn of 1994, George Phillip "Phil" Gall, a 26-year-old roofer, was building a life with his wife and their infant daughter in Dayton, Ohio. The young family was looking forward to the future, having just signed a lease on a new, larger home and were in the process of preparing for the move. By all accounts, Gall was a family man with no known personal issues that would suggest he might choose to disappear. He was a hard worker, evidenced by his hair being lightened by the sun and the fact that he left behind approximately $1,000 worth of roofing tools. The evening he was last seen, he was wearing a black and white checkered flannel shirt and jeans. Distinctive physical features included a deep dimple in his chin and a receding hairline. On the night of October 13, 1994, after what was described as a minor argument with his wife, George Gall left his residence on Seminary Avenue around 11:00 p.m. He boarded a Regional Transit Authority (RTA) bus headed for downtown Dayton. The bus driver later reported that Gall disembarked at the corner of Fourth and Main Streets. From there, he was seen walking in the direction of Patterson Road, where a now-closed nightclub called the Asylum was located. That was the last confirmed sighting of George Gall. He never returned home and has not been heard from since. His family, after about nine months with no contact, held a memorial service for him. In 2002, eight years after he vanished, George Phillip Gall was legally declared deceased. The investigation into Gall's disappearance has remained open but has been marked by a lack of significant leads or physical evidence. The case took a strange turn years later when a retired Dayton police lieutenant publicly claimed the disappearance might be connected to occult activities at the Asylum nightclub. The retired officer alleged that he had conducted undercover inquiries and was told by a bartender that Gall had been killed in a ritualistic beheading at the club. However, these claims have never been substantiated with evidence, and no arrests have ever been made in connection with the case. The story of Gall's disappearance gained renewed attention with the planned production of a documentary series, but the project was ultimately shelved. The case of George Phillip Gall is an unsettling mystery, leaving a family without answers and a community with lingering questions about the fate of the young father who vanished into the night.
