John Francis Bolden, age 35, was last seen on February 27, 1998, after setting sail from Miramar, Florida. He was aboard a 19-foot pleasure craft with two other men, Fred King and Dairo Restrepo. Their destination was Bimini in the Bahamas, but during the trip, their boat capsized off Haulover Beach and drifted towards Cape Canaveral.
Bolden attempted to swim to shore for help but never made it. Two days later, King and Restrepo were rescued by the Coast Guard, found clinging to the capsized boat about 35 miles off the Florida coast. Despite an extensive search, no trace of Bolden was ever found, and he is presumed to have drowned.
At the time of his disappearance, Bolden was wearing a white polo shirt, tan pants, and a life preserver. He also had a scar over his left eye. His case remains open, and he is listed as lost or injured missing. Authorities continue to investigate, although no new developments have emerged since the incident.
