On May 2, 2008, 44-year-old Gerald Arthur Nicholas was last seen in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. A farmer residing in Estate Bordeaux, Nicholas was reported missing by his neighbors after they had not seen him for several days. At the time of his disappearance, Nicholas stood at 5'9" and weighed approximately 145 pounds. He is a Black male with black hair styled in short dreadlocks, brown eyes, a sparse mustache, and a goatee.
Nicholas was not alone when he vanished.
He was with a friend, Penny Louise January, also 44, who had been visiting him from Illinois for about two weeks. Nicholas had reportedly told his neighbors that he was taking January sightseeing, specifically mentioning a trip to Botany Bay to show her the ocean before she returned to the mainland. Neither Nicholas nor January have been seen or heard from since that day.
Following the report of their disappearance, the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department launched an investigation. A search of Nicholas's apartment in Estate Bordeaux revealed nothing out of the ordinary, with the residence found intact and without any signs of a struggle or disarray. Law enforcement also conducted searches of the Botany Bay area, a location known for its steep cliffs overlooking the sea, but these efforts did not yield any clues as to the whereabouts of the missing pair.
