Fabio Aceituno, a 48-year-old man, went missing on June 13, 2011, while attempting to cross the border from Reynosa, Mexico, into the United States near McAllen, Texas. Fabio had left Reynosa on June 10, intending to reunite with his wife, Lesli, and his family in West Virginia. During the crossing, a man contacted Lesli on June 13, informing her that Fabio had been left behind in a remote area, approximately 25 minutes from McAllen, due to exhaustion and an injured foot.
