In early 2012, 41-year-old Shaun Thornhill traveled from his home in Rayville, Louisiana, to St. Francisville, with the hope of finding work on a tugboat or a barge. He checked into the Magnuson Hotel on January 20th and stayed for the next two nights. Records show he also paid for the night of January 23rd, though it remains uncertain if he actually spent that night in his room. His last confirmed sighting was in St. Francisville on that same day, January 23, 2012. A few days prior, on January 20th, he had a brief encounter with law enforcement and was arrested for public intoxication, but he posted bond and was released the same day. After January 23rd, Shaun Thornhill was not seen or heard from again, leaving his family and friends to wonder what could have happened to him in this town where he had come with aspirations of a new job. The mystery deepened when, on January 25, 2012, Thornhill's white GMC extended cab pickup truck was discovered abandoned on the side of Kingston Highway, south of Natchez in Adams County, Mississippi. The truck was locked, and inside, investigators found a scene that was both telling and perplexing. Nearly all of his personal belongings were still in the vehicle, including his wallet, cell phone, clothing, and even a television set. The only items conspicuously missing were his driver's license and his debit card. This discovery prompted an extensive search of the surrounding area by the Adams County Search and Rescue Team, who covered more than 600 acres of land, both cleared and wooded, and conducted aerial searches, but found no trace of Shaun. The creeks in the area had high water levels, which initially hampered search efforts. Shaun Thornhill is described as a white male, standing at 5'9" to 5'10" and weighing between 175 and 185 pounds. He has brown hair, often cut short, and blue, almond-shaped eyes. He has several distinguishing features, including a prominent scar within his left eyebrow, a tattoo of a sun with the number "798" in the center on his upper right arm, and the word "mainliner" tattooed on his back. He was also known to wear dark-colored prescription glasses and a watch. The investigation into his disappearance is being handled by the Richland Parish Sheriff's Office. The circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear; he was in a new town looking for employment, had a minor run-in with the law, and then vanished, leaving his vehicle and most of his possessions behind in a different state. The case of Shaun Thornhill is a troubling one, marked by a sudden and unexplained absence and a collection of puzzling clues that have yet to lead to any answers.
