Lorraine Judith Chance, also known as "Lee," was last seen on January 3, 1948, in Sacramento, California. That day, the 26-year-old mother left her daughter with a babysitter in Santa Cruz, promising to return later that evening, but she never did. At the time, Lorraine was grieving the recent death of her husband, Calvin "Bud" Chance, a Navy serviceman who had passed away in November 1947.
