In the spring of 1973, a 23-year-old mother named Althea Dayle Blankinship and her young son seemingly vanished. Last seen on March 27, 1973, in Port Townsend, Washington, Althea, a woman of Greek descent with blonde or brown hair and blue eyes, was reportedly planning an exciting trip with her son, Jeffrey. They intended to travel to Greece to meet her parents, who were on vacation. Their roommate at the time, Glenn Allan Bagley, told authorities that he had dropped Althea and Jeffrey off at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for their journey. They were scheduled to take a United Airlines flight to New York City and then a connecting flight to Greece. However, there is no evidence that Althea or her son ever boarded any flight that day, and they never arrived at their destination in Greece. As time passed with no word from Althea, concern grew among her family. The initial story of their travels began to unravel, revealing a more sinister possibility. A significant discovery was made in 2002 when Althea's cousin found her passport in a relative's home; it contained no entries, making an international trip highly improbable. This, coupled with the fact that no new passport was ever issued in her name, cast serious doubt on the roommate's account. Further investigation into their living situation revealed that Althea and Bagley had been involved in a romantic relationship, a detail uncovered through letters found by her cousin. The shadow of suspicion fell heavily on Glenn Allan Bagley, who became the primary suspect not only in the disappearance of Althea and her son but also in the later vanishing of his ex-wife, Esther Gesler, in 1976. Shortly after Gesler went missing, Bagley moved to the Philippines, where he resided for many years, working as a civil engineer and never again speaking with investigators in Washington. Despite their efforts, authorities were unable to build a strong enough case to charge him with murder. Bagley passed away from cancer in the Philippines in February 2016, taking any potential answers with him. The case of Althea Dayle Blankinship and her son remains an unsolved and heart-wrenching mystery, with foul play strongly suspected.
