Paul Gregory Egan, 18, was last seen in Plantation, Florida, on July 21, 1975. After finishing a work shift at the Florida Processing Company, where he was employed, Paul disappeared in the early morning hours. His coworker and close friend, Norman Paul Ruebottom, reported that they had left work together, and Paul allegedly drove a Jeep back to his home. However, Ruebottom later claimed to have found Paul's Jeep parked in the garage with his wallet inside and the keys left in Paul's bedroom.
Authorities were suspicious of Ruebottom’s account, especially since he had driven the Jeep around for several hours before reporting Paul missing. Investigators explored several theories, including the possibility that Paul had fallen into or was pushed into one of the processing company’s rendering machines, which ground up animal remains. Although no evidence of human remains was found, the nature of the machinery made it difficult to rule out foul play.
Despite investigations, including exploring whether Paul could have traveled abroad to places like Haiti or Jamaica, no definitive leads emerged. The case remains unsolved, with authorities suspecting foul play. Ruebottom died in 1977 in a strange accident involving an anesthetic gas, adding another layer of mystery to the case.
