Carol Woolsoncroft, a 20-year-old waitress, was last seen on August 7, 1984, in Fort Myers, Florida. She had planned to end her relationship with her live-in boyfriend, Eugene LaFaye Jr., around the time of her disappearance. Carol worked at Raffles Bar & Grill in Edison Mall, where she had met LaFaye, who had been fired just weeks earlier. On the day she vanished, Carol was scheduled to work but never arrived.
LaFaye claimed the last time he saw Carol, she was getting ready to shower before he left to visit relatives. Upon returning, he said she was gone, along with her car and personal belongings. Carol's car was later found outside her parents' house, with LaFaye leaving a note for them about her disappearance. A witness reported seeing Carol fighting with a man in her car the day she went missing.
Suspicion fell on LaFaye, who refused to cooperate with the investigation and provided false alibis. He later disappeared but resurfaced in New York, where he was jailed for robbery and subsequently convicted of murder in a separate case.
