On April 21, 2023, 20-year-old Kaylie Lynn Allen was fatally shot outside a party near Grogan and West Avenues in Merced, California. The incident occurred after a man, later identified as 19-year-old Jose Kevin Valencia-Zavala, was denied entry to the event. Witnesses reported that Valencia-Zavala became agitated upon being refused entry, engaged in a confrontation with the bouncers, and left the scene, only to return shortly thereafter with a firearm.
