In the early summer of 1985, a sense of unease settled over the community of Baconton in Mitchell County, Georgia, as 43-year-old Mae B. McMurphy, also known as Maybelle, vanished without a trace. On June 4th, Mae, a wife and resident of Baconton, attended a class at Albany Technical College in the nearby city of Albany.
