Arden Ray Bogart Jr., an 18-year-old from Lima, Ohio, was last seen on February 11, 1988, in the Santa Fe area of New Mexico. At the time of his disappearance, Bogart was traveling with a friend, returning from a trip to California where his friend had a court appearance. The two were driving separate vehicles back to Ohio. Arden's last known contact was with his father when he called from Needles, California, mentioning that his car, a Mercury Capri, had broken down.
After this, his father never heard from him again.
Bogart's traveling companion later informed Arden's family that the two had separated after fixing the car's wheel bearing. The friend gave inconsistent accounts about the events leading up to Arden's disappearance, which raised suspicion. Arden was last seen on Interstate 25 between Santa Fe and Pecos, New Mexico.
