In the spring of 1991, 34-year-old Susan Libby Marable was navigating a difficult period in her life in Yakima, Washington. A graduate of nursing school, Susan's life had taken a challenging turn, leading to the loss of her career and custody of her daughter due to drug addiction. By April of that year, she was living with a friend in their van. On the evening of April 23, 1991, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Susan left the van to walk to a nearby store. She told her friend that if she wasn't back within two hours, something was wrong. Susan never returned. Allegedly, she was seen getting into a maroon pickup truck and has not been seen or heard from since. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a denim jacket, blue jeans, and tan clogs with white soles. She also wore a single silver unicorn earring. Susan's life in the period leading up to her disappearance was marked by significant trauma. In 1990, she had been abducted and raped, an event that left her with lasting anxiety. The man convicted of this brutal attack, John L. Robinson, had openly threatened Susan and her family in court during his sentencing just weeks before she vanished. The parking lot where Susan was last seen was the same location from which she had been previously abducted. While John Robinson was incarcerated at the time of her disappearance, a bartender at the Sports Center Tavern reported seeing Susan get into a maroon pickup truck recognized as belonging to John's brother, Bill Robinson. This sighting added a disturbing layer to the investigation, creating a connection to the man who had previously harmed and threatened her. The investigation into Susan Marable's disappearance has been fraught with difficulties and unanswered questions, leaving her family with no closure for decades. Bill Robinson, the owner of the maroon pickup truck Susan was reportedly seen entering, was never interviewed by police regarding her disappearance; he passed away in 1992. John L. Robinson, the man who had previously assaulted her, died in 2020. Susan's family, particularly her sister, has continued to advocate for her case, hoping to one day find answers and bring her home for a proper burial. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance, but after more than thirty years, no solid leads have emerged, leaving the case a painful and unresolved mystery for her loved ones and the Yakima community.
