He was known to be active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4252 in Hernando, which was a significant part of his life at the time of his disappearance. He also drove a white 1982 Lincoln Town Car, which was missing along with him. The car had a Florida license plate with the number GUU-70X.
Despite thorough investigations, both Ellison and his vehicle were never found.
