In the spring of 2003, a young child named Steven Carlos Mendez vanished from his home in West New York, New Jersey. Only one year old at the time, his disappearance was not the result of a random act, but rather an alleged abduction by his own mother, Azucena Campos de Mendez. The last confirmed sighting of Steven was on May 6, 2003. Following his disappearance, a felony warrant was issued for his mother on December 24, 2003, solidifying the belief that she had unlawfully taken her son.
