Mark Leland Kirks, 42, was last seen on December 6, 2008, in Waco, Texas. At the time of his disappearance, Mark was living in a group home on North 43rd Street, where he had been residing for over eight years. Mark had a history of wandering off and had previously walked 40 miles to his family’s home in Whitney, Texas. His family still lived there, raising concerns that he may have tried to make his way back again.
Mark suffers from mental illness and developmental disabilities, conditions that required regular medication, which he did not have with him when he disappeared. This, combined with the cold weather and his inadequate clothing—a gray and black hooded sweatshirt, black warm-up pants, and black sneakers—led authorities to be highly concerned for his safety. Despite an extensive search of the area, no trace of him has been found.
Mark was known to be social and capable of using public transportation, but his medical condition may have left him disoriented. His case remains unsolved, and his disappearance is still classified as endangered due to his vulnerability.
