He was in communication with his wife, Yuliya Kanarska, and last spoke to her on December 27.
Lomov had secured a camping permit that was valid from December 29, 2012, through January 3, 2013, for several campsites along the island's scenic North Shore. His intention was to immerse himself in the wilderness before his scheduled flight back home.
