Neal Forrest King, a 24-year-old man, went missing on March 26, 2013, in Oroville, California. Originally from Texas, King had moved to California three years prior after receiving a $30,000 legal settlement. He used the money to purchase property with friends in Butte County, where they intended to grow marijuana. His involvement in this business became central to the events surrounding his disappearance.
On the day King went missing, he left his residence with a business associate, Donald Cheatham, to complete a deal involving a property and marijuana. King had previously expressed concerns to his girlfriend, stating that he believed Cheatham was not holding up his side of the bargain. King was last seen between 11:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Hilldale Avenue in Oroville, and his truck was later found parked outside Cheatham's house, but King himself was never seen again.
Cheatham claimed to have dropped King off at a remote location on Oro-Quincy Highway after their meeting, but authorities were suspicious of his story. Cheatham became a person of interest, although charges against him were unrelated to King’s disappearance. Unfortunately, in 2019, Cheatham was killed in an unrelated incident, further complicating the investigation. Foul play is suspected in King's case, and authorities believe his involvement in the marijuana trade may have played a role in his disappearance.
