In the spring of 2013, the vibrant life of a talented and adventurous 25-year-old man named Brian Histand took a mystifying turn. A Pennsylvania native and professional BMX rider, Brian had moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to follow his passion for biking. On May 15, 2013, he was last seen in Phoenix after a police officer responded to a call about a man sitting naked and praying in a field near South Mountain around 5:30 a.m.
The officer described Brian as disoriented but coherent, and after Brian declined assistance, he was allowed to leave. He was last seen walking toward the desert area of South Mountain, and from that moment, he vanished, leaving behind a community of friends and a loving family to grapple with his sudden and perplexing disappearance.
The days and weeks following Brian's disappearance were filled with anguish and a desperate search for answers. His vehicle was found abandoned at the bottom of South Mountain on May 17, 2013, after a farmer discovered his keys in a field. Inside the locked car were his wallet, identification, credit card, and his beloved bicycle. Friends and family, including his father who was a police officer in Pennsylvania, traveled to Arizona to aid in the search efforts. The BMX community rallied, spreading awareness through social media and a dedicated Facebook page. Concerns grew as reports surfaced about his strange behavior in the days leading up to his disappearance.
