Mildred Louise Roche, 38 years old, was last seen on May 31, 1976, after she and her husband, Ronald Roche, left her parents' farm in Mankato, Minnesota, intending to return to their home in Fargo, North Dakota. According to Ronald, shortly after their return to Fargo, Mildred left him on June 2, stating she wanted a divorce. He claimed she packed several suitcases and a significant amount of money before departing.
Ronald later told authorities that Mildred had contacted him from Boston in August 1976, but no evidence was found to corroborate his story.
Mildred's family, concerned about her lack of communication, reported her missing on June 23, 1976. Despite Ronald’s account, her family found it unusual that she had not been in touch, especially given her medical condition—she suffered from epilepsy and had not refilled her prescription since her disappearance. The case remained cold for years, and although police investigated Ronald further in 1996, even digging up his backyard in Fargo, no evidence was found, and no charges were filed.
