John William Spiers, a 70-year-old man from Chesterfield, Virginia, went missing on November 27, 1977, under mysterious circumstances. Spiers was last seen at his residence on November 22, 1977. Shortly after his disappearance, his vehicle, a 1969 Ford LTD, was found abandoned on December 10 at a truck stop in Stafford, Virginia. The car had its license plates and stickers removed, adding to the intrigue of his case.
