Lynn Burdick, an 18-year-old from Florida, Massachusetts, disappeared on April 17, 1982, while working alone at her cousin’s convenience store, The Barefoot Peddler. The store was located on Route 2, close to her family's home. Around 8:10 p.m., Lynn was on the phone with her cousin when a customer entered the store. She hung up to attend to the customer, and that was the last time anyone heard from her.
By 8:40 p.m., a customer found the store empty with the door left open, and Lynn's personal belongings—including an open book and a soda—were still on the counter. Her jacket and purse were missing, and $187 had been taken from the cash register. The family immediately reported her missing, and authorities suspected foul play from the start, believing she may have been abducted.
Investigators linked her case to an attempted abduction in nearby Williamstown, which took place just 40 minutes before Lynn disappeared. A vehicle seen fleeing the Williamstown scene was later spotted heading towards Florida, Massachusetts.
