Bobby Dale Allen, a 23-year-old Navy sailor, went missing on August 15, 1986, after visiting family in Adelanto, California. Allen was assigned to the U.S.S. William H. Bates, a nuclear submarine based in San Diego, and was last seen leaving his sister's residence to return to his base. However, he never arrived. His car, a 1985 Ford Mustang, was later found abandoned with the keys inside on North Harbor Boulevard in San Diego.
Initially, because he was listed as Absent Without Leave (AWOL), his family's attempts to file a missing person report were denied. It wasn't until 2014 that a missing persons report was officially filed with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Despite investigations, no further clues about his whereabouts have surfaced, and his case remains unsolved.
Allen had a distinctive tattoo of a black cougar with red scratch marks on his right bicep and required either contact lenses or glasses for vision. His family continues to seek answers in this long-standing case.
