Cassandra Ann Lalonde, known to her loved ones as Candy, was just fifteen years old when she vanished in the spring of 1988. While her registered address was in Westwego, Louisiana, she was known to spend time in Buras, about 65 miles away. The circumstances surrounding the day she went missing are complex. Reports indicate that on April 1, 1988, Cassandra was seen leaving Buras on a motorbike with a man named David, with the supposed destination of Alabama. After this sighting, there was an unnerving silence. Her family and friends did not hear from her, and her whereabouts became a painful mystery. A strange and unsettling development in the case came in July of that same year. Cassandra's family received a phone call from a man who identified himself as Salvatore. He claimed to be a fisherman who worked on a seafood boat in Buras and drove a distinctive green truck with a camper top. According to Salvatore, he and Cassandra had been living together in a secluded, rural home in Mobile, Alabama. He recounted a story of an argument that led to Cassandra leaving the house to take a walk and cool down. Disturbingly, he noted that she left her purse and cigarettes behind and never came back. This was the last piece of information, albeit unverified, that her family would receive about her potential whereabouts. The years that have passed since Cassandra's disappearance have been filled with unanswered questions and heartache for her family. At the time she went missing, Cassandra was described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing at 5'3" and weighing around 130 pounds. She had a noticeable large scar on one of her legs, near the knee, from a previous injury that required stitches, and her ears were pierced. The investigation into her disappearance is being handled by the Westwego Police Department. Despite the passage of time and the complexities of her case, including a difficult childhood that saw her in and out of foster care, the search for answers continues. Her family has endured decades of uncertainty, holding onto the hope that one day they will know what happened to their beloved Candy. The case remains an active missing person investigation, a poignant reminder of a young life interrupted and the enduring pain of not knowing.
