Ann Mineko Racz, age 42, was last seen on April 22, 1991, in Newhall, California. That evening, she dropped off her three children at the home of her estranged husband, John Racz, and intended to return with hamburgers for dinner. However, Ann never came back, and her car was found three days later near the Van Nuys Airport, with no sign of her. At the time of her disappearance, Ann was going through a contentious divorce and custody battle with John, a former sheriff’s deputy. The situation had grown increasingly hostile, and Ann had recently moved into a new home with the children just days before she went missing.
Although her body was never recovered, investigators suspected foul play early on, given the circumstances of her relationship with John. Friends and family noted Ann’s fear of her estranged husband, and one neighbor even reported seeing John follow her after she left for the fast food restaurant that evening. Despite these suspicions, the case went cold for over a decade.
In 2006, new evidence led to John being charged with Ann's murder, and he was convicted in 2007 of first-degree murder, receiving a sentence of 25 years to life. He continues to maintain his innocence, and Ann’s remains have never been found.
