In the quiet subdivision of Bluegrass Downs in Hendersonville, Tennessee, 25-year-old Salena Marie Tackett vanished, leaving behind a life that had just taken a significant turn. On January 30, 2003, merely a week after marrying her husband, Tyrone N. Tackett, Salena disappeared from their home on Secretariat Place. Her husband reported her missing the following day, January 31, 2003, telling authorities he had fallen asleep and awoke to find her gone. According to his account, Salena had taken a large sum of cash, reportedly over $60,000, but left behind her purse and car. Salena was a dedicated mother to a two-year-old daughter she shared with Tyrone and an eight-year-old son from a previous relationship. Friends and family found it difficult to believe she would willingly abandon her children, especially her young daughter, whom she would check on frequently when left with a babysitter. In the days leading up to her disappearance, Salena had expressed deep regret over her recent marriage, telling loved ones she had made a mistake and was afraid for her life. The relationship was described as troubled, with neighbors attesting to frequent arguments between the couple. On the very day she went missing, she had reportedly asked her husband for an annulment. The investigation into Salena's disappearance unfolded against a backdrop of a tumultuous relationship. Both Salena and Tyrone were originally from Kentucky, and their path to marriage had been rocky, with Tyrone having canceled their engagement twice before they finally wed. After her disappearance, Tyrone sold their home and relocated to Florida with their daughter. The case grew colder over the years, though police suspected foul play from early on. A significant development came in July 2011, when Tyrone Tackett was arrested in Florida for solicitation to commit murder, accused of having tried to hire someone to kill Salena back in 2003. This charge, however, was later dropped in March 2014 due to the statute of limitations expiring. Further complicating the narrative, a 2004 lawsuit filed by one of Tyrone's relatives, Brian Tackett, alleged that Tyrone was involved in criminal activities and that Salena had knowledge of them. The lawsuit claimed Tyrone first attempted to hire a hitman and then killed Salena himself to silence her. While the initial solicitation charge was dismissed, the legal pursuit for answers in Salena's case did not end. In December 2011, Tyrone Tackett was charged with first-degree murder in connection with his wife's disappearance. In a turn of events, in March 2014, he accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter. This plea resulted in a sentence of three years in prison followed by two years of probation. Despite his guilty plea, Tyrone has maintained that he did not harm Salena and only took the deal because he felt it was in his best interest. The case is a heartbreaking one, leaving Salena's family, including her son who resides in Kentucky, without definitive answers. Foul play has long been suspected given the circumstances surrounding her vanishing just a week into her marriage after expressing fear for her safety. The overview of the case reveals a story of a young mother who disappeared under suspicious circumstances, a husband with a shifting legal standing, and a family left to grapple with an unresolved loss.
