In the early morning hours of June 19, 2013, Shaniece Mona Briggs, a 26-year-old mother of four, was last seen at her apartment in the King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. Around 1:00 a.m., she walked out the back door of her residence, leaving it unlocked. Inside, her four young children, all under the age of seven, were asleep. Shaniece left behind her keys and her purse but took her wallet and cell phone. The circumstances suggested she may have intended to return quickly. However, she was never seen or heard from again. A few hours later, the father of her children arrived at the home to find them alone and contacted Shaniece's mother, Melissa Williams, who then reported her daughter missing. The investigation into her disappearance soon uncovered unsettling information. After news of her case became public, a neighbor came forward to report seeing Shaniece being pushed into a black car parked near her apartment complex on the day she vanished. This account led authorities to investigate her disappearance as a possible abduction, and they have stated that foul play is suspected. Her family and loved ones have emphasized that it was completely out of character for Shaniece, a devoted mother, to abandon her children. Her disappearance meant she missed significant family milestones, including her son's kindergarten graduation and another child's first birthday, which further convinced her family that she did not leave willingly. Since she went missing, there has been no activity on her financial accounts. At the time of her disappearance, Shaniece was described as a Black female, standing between 5'3" and 5'5" tall and weighing between 130 and 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She has several distinct physical features, including pierced ears, a piercing above the right side of her upper lip, and a tattoo on her left arm of a king with a crown that incorporates the name "Gregory Fields". She was believed to be wearing a pink and grey North Face jacket, a white shirt, black sweatpants or leggings, and black flip-flops. The overview of this case is one of a young mother who vanished from her home under highly suspicious circumstances. Despite the passage of time and the pain it has brought her family, the case remains unsolved, with no publicly named suspects or persons of interest and very few leads. The Columbus Police Department continues to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
