On a cold evening in January 2018, a 19-year-old woman named Le-Shay Dungey vanished while on her way to visit a friend in Columbus, Ohio. That day, after spending time filling out job applications, she boarded a Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) bus to travel to a friend's residence located near the Ohio State University campus. Throughout her journey, she was in communication with her friend via Facebook Messenger. At 8:25 p.m., she sent her final message, telling him she was walking and not far from his home, asking him to unlock the door. However, Le-Shay never made it to the address on Summit Street and was never heard from again. The hours that followed her last message were filled with a growing sense of unease. Her friend, who she was supposed to meet, never saw her arrive. Because Le-Shay did not have a data plan for her cell phone, she relied on Wi-Fi to communicate, which meant she couldn't be reached if she wasn't in a location with internet access. Despite this, authorities have stated that they believe if Le-Shay had a way to contact her family, she would have done so. Her family, wracked with worry, described the ordeal as a "dad's nightmare," expressing unimaginable pain over her sudden and unexplained disappearance. Her stepmother remembered Le-Shay as "fearless," and sadly considered that if she was in danger, she may not have even been aware of it. In the years that have passed, the search for answers has continued. The Columbus Division of Police has investigated her case, with detectives looking into the circumstances of her disappearance. The male friend she was planning to visit was thoroughly investigated and is not considered a suspect in her case. There has been no activity on her social media or credit accounts since she went missing. Her family has made heartfelt public pleas for any information that could lead to her whereabouts. The case of Le-Shay Dungey remains an active and unsolved missing person investigation, a painful reality for a family left without answers. The overview of the case is that a young woman, on a seemingly ordinary evening, disappeared without a trace after getting off a city bus to walk the final few blocks to a friend's home, her last known communication being a message indicating she was just moments away.
