Elsie Mae Roane, a 16-year-old girl from West Point, Virginia, vanished on the night of May 20, 1957. She was last seen around 11:00 p.m. by a police officer walking down a street in downtown West Point, carrying two suitcases. At the time of her disappearance, Elsie was nearing the end of her sophomore year at West Point High School, where she was known to be an above-average student.
