Francis Xavier Schmidt, a 36-year-old man from Neptune, New Jersey, was last seen on the night of September 14, 1979. He had dinner with a friend in South Plainfield before heading home in his white 1978 Buick Regal with New Jersey plates 794-IXA. Schmidt planned to stop by his office to drop off some work, which he did, as the documents were later found. However, he never made it home, and his wife reported him missing the following day.
